PEEK gearing and wear plates on ECO and ISOCHEM gear pumps

Have an application for a thin, non-lubricating fluid at 350 F? Or perhaps an ambient temperature, high pressure application where maximum tensile strength is desired for the idler gear? PEEK, or poly ether ether ketone, is a high performance resin available for both extremely high and extremely low temperature applications. PEEK has a very low coefficient of thermal expansion which reduces the need for trimming gears to avoid binding.

Flexural strength, flexural modulus and tensile strength of PEEK are considerably higher than those of glass-filled PTFE when measured at ambient temperature or at elevated temperatures as high as 400 F. Even when using PEEK for both drive and idler gears, the maximum differential pressure capability of the pump remains at 100 psi, unlike glass-filled PTFE for both gears which reduces the maximum differential pressure to 50 psi. However, unlike metal drive and idler gears, which may gall when used on application with thin, non-lubricating fluids, PEEK gears provide excellent service life. PEEK chemical compatibility is not as broad as that of PTFE, but it will certainly handle a very wide range of fluids. Check the partial fluids chart below, or contact your local ECO / ISOCHEM distributor for other chemicals.

The benefit to the customer is a very versatile material with the ability to handle applications that other materials simply cannot. This signifies money well spent if it means the difference between a satisfied or a dis-satisfied customer.

Bear in mind that not all PEEK is created equal. Our PEEK is a proprietary blend of PEEK, carbon, and PTFE. This blend of "PULSAFEEDER" PEEK provides superior ability to handle the non-lubricating applications which are common services for ECO and ISOCHEM pumps. Be sure to differentiate yourself when specifying PEEK components.
